The Oracle of Omaha - Warren Buffett - Value Investing
Warren Buffett aka the Oracle of Omaha aka the Sage of Omaha is the archetypal value investor. He has become the richest man on the planet by investing in well-run companies and holding his investments for many years. Despite being a billionaire he still lives in the house he bought in 1958 in Omaha. He was born Warren Edward Buffett on August 30, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, which is why he has become known as the Oracle of Omaha or the Sage of Omaha.
In the economic crisis and credit crunch of 2008 he started buying stocks around October, following his own maxim of "being greedy when other people are fearful and fearful when other people are greedy." Up until that point he had not been investing in equities for years, as he considered them too expensive.
He famously filed his first income tax return when he was a newspaper delivery boy aged 13 year, on which he included a deduction of $35 for his bicycle as a "work expense".
In 1950 he was turned down for Harvard Business School but enrolled at Columbia Business School after finding out that Benjamin Graham and David Dodd taught there.
In 1957 he paid $31,500 for a five bedroomed house in Omaha, where he still lives. Although being a billionaire and making stock market investments worth many billions every year he only draws a salary of $200,000 from his company Berkshire Hathaway.
The analysis of his DNA shows that his ancestors on his father's side are from northern Scandinavia, while his ancestors on his mother's side probably hail from Iberia or Estonia.
He also has no clear relation to the singer Jimmy Buffett, despite suggestions to the contrary.
